HISTORY

When Howard (Howie) OShell was a boy, his granddad would take him to the local airport where a business associate of his grandfather kept his Beech King Air and Bell Jet-Ranger helicopter.  This businessman would use the aircraft to operate his coal mining business in Western Pennsylvania.

The hook was set from a young age and OShell fell in love with aircraft.  “I always felt a hangar was a magical place where planes and pilots hung out, told stories etc,” Howie says.

This same businessman recommended a flight instructor when Howie was 13.  He trained and earned his pilot certificates at the minimum ages for each.  After working for a variety of corporate operators and a commuter airline Howie was hired by American Airlines in 1990.

He flew the “silver birds” of AA literally all over the world, flying many different aircraft types over a 28-year career.  He eventually advanced into the training department and was a “Check Airman” or training pilot, helping other pilots achieve their career goals.

Beginning in 2015, Howie began laying plans for the next phase of his flying career with the launch of Chairman Airmotive II, LLC. Upon retiring from American Airlines in 2018, Howie continued to follow his passion for flying by focusing full-time on growing Chairman to meet the unique and demanding travel needs of customers.

Howie sees flight and the ability to move unfettered from place as one of “greatest demonstrations of freedom we have as Americans.” His only goal – one that he shares with the entire Chairman team – is to make the private aviation experience what it could and should be – meeting passengers’ expectations for transparency, value, quality and service.
